Join Jen Freeman & Toltec Seer Francis Rico for a Journey Into Eternity
August, 2025
Beartooth Mountains, Montana
Step out of your busy life and reconnect with the timeless wonder of the Great Mystery!
Join Jen Freeman and Francis Rico on a journey through our inner and outer timeless landscapes – rivers, mountains, waterfalls, forests, lakes, canyons, and breathtaking vistas—a journey through the majestic Beartooth Mountains in Montana.
We’ll travel together for 3 days and 2 nights, with accommodations at the Hunter Peak Ranch on Chief Joseph Trail. There will be an optional Mescal sweat on Thursday, August 3rd. Retreat is limited to 16 participants.
Our itinerary includes:
Day 1
Optional Temescal Sweat in the evening on Thursday, before the official Journey begins on Friday August 4th.
A Temazcal Sweat is an indigenous tradition for gentle purification, using herbs and water poured over fire heated rocks to create healing steam to warm and open the body and mind. Temazcal literally means house of heat in the Nahuatl language. This experience takes place in a sweat lodge - a kind of round hut made of branches and fabrics, or earth or stones. In the center of the Temazcal is a small pit where the rocks heated on a specially prepared fire are placed.
A Temazcal Sweat promotes relaxation of muscular systems and relieves pain. Sweat cleanses the body of toxins and is good for the respiratory system. But the Temazcal is not just a simple herbal steam bath, but also an inner journey that helps us to reconnect with ourselves for self-healing. It is an experience of introspection that takes place under the guidance of a temazcalero or shaman. Although each ceremony is different, songs, chants, and drumming along with rattles, create a magical experience that is purifying, rejuvenating and inspirational.
Day 2
In the early morning, we gather in Billings and leave for Red Lodge, MT, about an hour away. We carpool together with designated Journey drivers, in 3 -4 cars. Red Lodge is the gateway to the Beartooth Scenic Highway. The drive is truly spectacular—the famed news correspondent Charles Kuralt called it “America’s most scenic drive”.
When we arrive, we have a leisurely stop at a local coffeeshop for those who’d like a hot beverage or treat before we head into the mountains.
Our adventures this day include:
Tuning into the sacred at beautiful Rock Creek
Connecting into our wild nature at incredible vistas looking over the Beartooth Mountain pass
Spending time on the Beartooth Mountain Plateau with some of the oldest exposed rocks in the world, approximately 3.3 billion years old.
Enjoying a lovely picnic lunch in one of those locations, depending on weather and timing
We arrive in the late afternoon at the Hunter Peak Ranch, our home away from home.
Hunter Peak Ranch is in the heart of the Shoshone National Forest, the oldest designated national forest in the US, on the banks of the Clark’s Fork River. A family run operation for over seventy years, the Cary’s warmly welcome us with healthy food, a relaxing atmosphere, and well-kept accommodations reflecting the rustic charm of the region.
Day 3
We are adding an additional day this year. We’re currently dreaming up what that day holds. We’ve got some great ideas, check back closer to the date for more details!
Day 4
We enjoy a leisurely breakfast then leave the Ranch to explore the surrounding area.
Our stops include:
A picnic lunch at a gorgeous ravine and waterfall where we can get right up to the water’s edge, admiring the raw power
Meditating at a scenic overview with truly breathtaking views of the Absaroka Mountains, through which is the Northeast entrance to Yellowstone National Park
We leave the afternoon free so you can relax in whatever way calls you—a luxurious afternoon nap, walking along the Clark’s Fork River, or hiking in the surrounding area.
We gather before dinner to reflect and share our experiences so far and for energy teachings. We close our day with a delicious dinner and fire ceremony.
Day 4
We say goodbye to the Ranch after one last hearty breakfast and packing our picnic lunches and begin our journey home via the Chief Joseph Trail road.
We spend the morning nearby in a meadow, meeting in council and sharing more energy teachings. We meditate with the land and connect into our timeless essence, the sacred wildness in our own hearts.
Re-entering after such a deep dive into Eternity is an artform. We discuss the best way to allow the deep changes that have occurred to take root in your life. In clock time, it may be 4 days. In internal time, it feels much higher, deeper, and wider.
The remainder of our journey out of the Shoshone National Forest takes us through spectacular scenery:
We stop for ceremony at a majestic hidden ravine, the river thousands of feet below us. We enjoy our picnic lunches in the nearby shade trees.
We cross one last mountain pass at 8000 feet, which we’ve nicknamed the Grateful Dead Indian Pass. Here we gather for more ceremony and a goodbye to the panoramic vista.
We see the vast plains below as we cross over the pass. We stop to say savor this crossroads at the edge of Shoshone National Forest.
We arrive back in Billings in the late afternoon, about 75 minutes away. For those who would like to join in, we have a goodbye party with appetizers and beverages.

“I am so very thankful for the opportunity to commune with the divine – through nature’s spectacular ever changing elements, connecting deeply inward and expansively outward; all while journeying with my fellow sacred travelers. We laughed, we played, we breathed, took pauses, went deep and then sky high. We were present to ourselves, the wonder of the life and to each other. Ceremony means many things to many people. To us, it is the opportunity to gather together in community and to shift from clock time—the time of meetings, errands, hustle and bustle—into the vaster, truer sense of the timeless, or the eternal. When we do so, we connect in to our higher, wider, deeper selves, becoming present.
We work with what we call “Living Ceremony”. It means that we favor more informal, spontaneous approaches to accessing the living sacred heart of who we all truly are.
